    clock

Everyone loves having some funky room decor. I don't care who you are, or what your room looks like--this project will work for you! Well, this is a unique project that will look perfect in any setting. This Hot Hot Heat clock isn't something you can just buy anywhere, ya know! All this takes is some money and some time. Soon, you'll be tellin' time in style! This project looks a lot more complicated than it actually is.Be sure you read all directions before you start your project. I cannot stress that enough.

    Materials:
  • an old album cover without creases or bends--or a square piece of cardboard--it won't be as good of quality, but it works. If you use an album cover, I'd recomend using something that's common or ugly so you don't feel like you are wasting, lol!
  • a crap load of Hot Hot Heat pictures you can print off your computer--I suggest using white cardstock but regular paper will do.
  • acrylic paint in the color of your choice (darker colors recommended)
  • Mod Podge or another Decoupage medium
  • Water-based varnish/sealer (optional)
  • scissors
  • battery operated clockwork mechanism--you can find this at any hardware store
  • a nail
  • a ruler
  • a pencil
  • a hammer

    Directions:

1)If you don't plan on making a full collage, you will be doing this step. Paint the entire front of the album color with your acrylic paint. Let dry and paint with a second layer. After that completely dries, if you can still see through (if it was a light color, especially) or is streaky, add a third coat and let that dry. Your paint must be dry before you do anything else...or you'll smear it and get paint all over your pictures and it'll look like crap.

2)Meanwhile, while the paint is drying or before you start your project, depending on if you did the first step, start cutting out your pictures. You can either cut out the members exactaly or make it more magazine-type by making straight cuts (look at diagram). Or you can use a combo of both (we all realize how hard Steve's hair is to cut around!) Make sure you print out plenty of pictures.

3)Using your brush, start spreading a layer of the Mod Podge on the painted surface. Then, place your pictures on top of the goop, using your brush or finger to get rid of any creases or bubbles. Then, while the underlayer of goop is still wet, spread another thin layer on top of the pictures. If you want, you can add the numbers 12, 3, 6, and 9 or you can leave it blank--depending on your style. Now, as an optional addition, when all of the Mod Podge dries, add a coat or two of water-based varnish/sealer to make it your clock base shiny and durable! Be sure it's dry between coats.

    4) Now, I recomend this step for the following day, just to be completely safe. Turn the album cover over, take a ruler and hold it from one corner to the opposite and draw a line with your pencil. Then do the same thing with the other corners! Where the two lines meet, make a large dot. Then, take your nail and punch a hole all the way through the album cover. Twist the nail around until you get a hole bit enough to fit the size of the clockwork mechanism. Push the shaft of the clockwork back through the hole and follow the directions on the mechanism package to assemble the hands.

    5) Wow, you are done, The mechanism should have come with a hanger, so all you have to do is grab that nail and a hammer and hang it up!

Let your personal style and taste dictate how you do your clock. For example, for something girly, paint your base with pink paint and before you print your photos, make them black and white. For something more masculine, paint the album cover black and turn the photos red. You can do that with Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, of if you do not have those programs and would like to tint your photos a certain color/colors, you may contact me, although you may have to wait for some time. But let your imagination dictate how you make it. It can be a shrine to Steve. Use glitter or sequins to add sparkle. Paint your own rendition of the band. If you painted your room and still have some paint left over, use that to paint your background. But, if you do the collage effect, remember, you'll need a lot of photos!

DISCLAIMER: do this project at your own risk! I can not be held liable for any mess-ups or injuries acquired making this clock. Yes, I know, it's funny thinking of someone getting injured making this, but I cannot risk being sued or something--you know how people can be.
